After starting the engine, check the shift

action by using the control head to shift the

Ahead and Astern positions. The Ahead/

Astern clutch is a mechanical clutch called

a cone clutch. Although a grinding noise is

made when this type of clutch is engaged,

it has no effect on the operation of the en-

gine.

Because of the rubbing produced at the

frictional face of the cone clutch, grip-

ping action is lessened with use and

periodic inspection and maintenance is

necessary.
